Its over a week since I last updated and seem to have done loads since then. I got in to Sao Paolo last Friday and met up with Marco so that night we had a bite to eat with his cousins in the flat above his and then had a couple of beers before taking the nightbus to Cambe.
Cambe is a small town just outside Londrina and somewhere tourists simply don´t visit as there is not really anything of interest for a tourist there so the weekend was all about the people and experiencing the typical ways of Brasilian life which is exactly what I had been wanting to do more on this trip.
To say I was spoilt by Marco´s parents would be an understatement
On the Saturday afternoon after (very!) brief city tours of Cambe and Londrina we got down to the serious business of experiencing the local watering holes. All I can say is that Brazilian´s know how to have a good time and are certainly people I have a lot of time for!
After getting home around 0630 we had a lunch appointment with Marco´s family friends so breakfast on Sunday consisted of beer and about half a cow - am sure you are getting a picture of why I love this place so much!
The highlight of Sunday night had to be some nutter driving around outside the bar we were sat in with an air rifle openly taking shots at some dude that had obviously done something dodgy to him. The gunmen who was probably some sort of looney farmer had his young son in the front of the car who seemed to be having a great time with the fine example that was being set for him - ´look and learn son, look and learn..´
On Monday night we got a lift back to Sao Paolo and I stayed with one of Marco´s mates Henrique before taking a bus down to Guarunju on Monday morning to spend a couple of days on the beach.
When I arrived to blazing sunshine I thought my run of bad luck with rain on the beaches had come to an end but by the time I had checked in to the hostel and headed out one of the fiercest storms I have encountered yet hit us so I sacked the beach off and had a wonder round in the wet
Wednesday proved better as I managed a solid 6 hour session on the beach before the rain came. On Thursday I headed back to Sao Paolo and did a bit of exploring on the Friday in the rain before heading out in the evening with Marco and various mates which was another entertaining evening..
On Saturday we managed to blag free tickets to the Sao Paolo university grauation party which should have cost over a 100 quid but its all about who you know! Having spent the whole afternoon trying to rent me a suit we eventually borrowed one off Marco´s mate which despite being on the large side did the job. With free booze all night we joined the other 9000 people in a very healthy drinking session and stumbled out at close at 7 in the morning although at that point things started to get a bit hazy..
I flew to Salvador on Sunday night and am absolutely loving it here particularly as its scorchio with no rain (finally!). Preparations are being made for carnival so there is a real buzz in the air and I can tell that week is going to be one of the best parties I´ve ever experienced.
So until the next time
