G'day mates!

I hope you're all keeping well. I hear Ireland and the UK are getting a bit of a heat wave - its alright for some! its pretty cold here, by Aussie standards anyway, so the tan is temporarily on hold...

I've been in Melbourne for about a month and have settled in well. I spent the first few days at my aunt and uncle's place about an hour from the city so it was nice to relax there, get rid of the jet lag and adjust to the temperature!

Melbourne is a lovely city, really clean and easy to navigate as its on a grid system and the trams are really handy to get around. Its quite cultural with lots of galleries, museums, markets and theatres. Around the centre at Federation Square theres some great architecture including the Australian Centre for Moving Image and the Ian Potter Centre - check out the pics. The Southbank is also a nice area to stroll along. Close to there is the State Arts Centre where I went to see the ballet 'Giselle' performed by the Australian Ballet a few nights ago which was fantastic, its a beautiful venue and the dancing was superb.

For some uncivilised behaviour I headed to St Kilda which is the popular seaside area with a promenade and an amusement park. Its where most of the backpackers hang out and theres lots of hostels, pubs, restaurants and music venues. Apparently its good for celebrity spotting and I did actually see that big skinhead swimmer dude and someone from 'Neighbours'. Its obviously the place to be seen...

Around Fitzroy and Brunswick street is also a nice part of town - theres loads of cool cafes, bars and funky shops (its really tested my will power!). A comparison for the Londonites would be Soho meets Camden with a hint of Hoxton. Quite a good combination. Bonzer!

As well as the touristy stuff I've been doing some freelance design work and also some temping which was an interesting change. I'm slowly getting used to the lingo. The one that threw me was 'How're ya travelling?'(ie "hows it going?") to which I replied "er, walking". I think it'll take me a while...

must go get myself some tucker

bye for now!
