The sites were free! Woke up and met the other 2 Canadians, Jill and M.C. and bought a 24 hour metro card and quickly made our way to Syntagamma where we caught the Changing of the Guard parade, it wasn't quite the full formal one, but it was still interesting and cool to see at the same time. The guards wore skirts, with white leggings, and had pom poms on their shoes. I may have giggled a bit when I first saw them...may have. Wandered our way to the Acropolis and confirmed the rumours that there was free entrance. So money was saved which was great news. Marveled at the ancient sites and pondered again how in the world they managed to build such buildings that are still standing today. Meandered our way around the city center, and walked to the Library of Hadrian, which wan't too impressive but cool to walk by because it was free entrance :). Afterwards walked through the "Flea Market" which really just housed a whole bunch of stores which I wanted to look through, but didn't have the time as we needed to get to the Agora. Arrived at the Agora, and looked around, pretty impressive looking but didn't get to spend as much time as I wanted to there. What I didn't realize was that all the tourist sites closed by 3:30. So we left and went for lunch and ate some more Greek Salads and Tazhiki sauce. That night back at the hostel, there was talk about the possibility of being fireworks so took the metro again and headed to Syntagamma where there was no fireworks, and no one had any idea what we were talking about so we headed back to the hostel.
Made some tenative plans for the rest of the trip with M.C. with hopes of going to Delphi for the day, stay at Meteroa for the night, spend the day there and then go straight from Meteroa to Athens, and hopefully catch a night ferry to go to Santorini for the rest of the trip.
Just realized that I have been to 3 of the Ancient Worlds this year, Egypt, Rome and Greece....Crazy!
