So this week I was invited to play a prestigious game of wiffleball. For those who don't know what a wiffleball is, it's a hallow ball with lots of holes in it. I joined a team who's team name was Team Jebick (we named ourselves after using the first initials of our names) but our coach, Brett decided to override our team name decision and called ourselves the Holey Balls. Our team mainly consisted of Heritage Teachers, teachers from other international schools and a 'local' celebrity, a Canadian DJ at a local radio station. One of the teachers from another school provided the most gorgeous uniforms ever, dark/light green striped uniforms, it came with and without sleeves. We quickly renamed ourselves the Pirate Hookers.
If you've nevered played a game of willfeball here's the rules
1. No more than 8
players per team on the field
members as you like but no more than 8 can be on the field. Conversely
you can have as few on the field as you like.
2. You may only bat 8 players in succession then the inning is over.
3. 3 outs and the inning is over.
4. A ball caught in the air with one hand is worth two outs.
5.
A runner may either be hit with the ball or tagged. NO HEAD SHOTS. If
the runner is hit in the head they will be safe at the base that they
were headed to.
6. A force out is the same as in baseball/softball.
7. No called balls or strikes. A batter can only swing and miss for the third strike to be struck out and no walks.
8. Pitches can be thrown under or over hand - pitcher's choice.
Games are approximately 30 minutes long and every effort will be made
to finish an inning but the ultimate time limit is 45 minutes. Whoever
is ahead at the end of 45 minutes is the winner.
10. Double elimination - Random seeding (Though the organizers reserve the right to move seeds to ensure competitiveness.
11.
Home runs are determined by where the ball lands or where the feet of
the fielder are when a catch is made. The edge of the infield closest
the softball outfield is the home run "fence."
12. No stealing.
Originally there was 9 teams, but by the time it was game day there was only 4 teams playing, our team was the only one made up of adults, other teams were mostly made of different families together. Our team took full advantage of rule 4 and 5 and as a result I don't think we've crushed so many children's dreams
It was a fabulous day with co-workers and other ex-pats that I've met in the area that I live in.

wiffleball bats
. We caught balls with one or two hands, tried to peg kids with the balls, and one of our team members hit the ball and it actually hit one of the kids in the stomach, don't worry he was an older kid. For the finals of the tournament, it was a good game between the Pirate Hookers and the Spicy Peppers with both teams wanting the big prize, Corona Beer. The Pirate Hookers had a bigger urge to win because there was a lot more over 18-Pirate Hookers then the over 18-Spicy Peppers (it was a family team). The end result was that the Pirate Hookers won and the Corona Beer was appreciated by all the teams. It was a fabulous day with co-workers and other ex-pats that I've met in the area that I live in.
