So as my friend Mike has nicely put it, "Happy first Birthday in Egypt". It was an interesting birthday to say the least. My day started off crap-tacular with a few parents coming in to school and making mountains out of mole hills and generally setting a bad tone for my birthday. To make things worse at school, the internet has been down and when it was on, it was flakey to say the least. The day continued on and by 3pm I was informed that there was a middle years staff meeting and that the buses would be leaving around 4, and that there was a late bus that'll be leaving as well. So by 3:45 I pack up my stuff and head upstairs to see no one in the front waiting for the bus. I get a phone call from Brenda and she informed me that her bus has left, and maybe the other bus hasn't left yet...well you guessed it. My bus had left and I was stuck at school till the late bus left the school.
All in all, the evening wasn't too bad. It seemed like another JK teacher also missed the bus, so we ranted among ourselves and I got to work in my classroom and cleaning it up. I found a lot of glitter in my classroom, bubble solution and extra birthday goodie bags from the previous year, so I had a mini b-day party in my classroom complete with the hats :).
Finally 6:30 arrived and we boarded that late bus, and by 8pm I was back in Maadi, I then headed over to Lucille's for some Mexican goodness with some of the teachers at the school. Where I got a bag of the best chips ever from Thailand. They're called Honey Mustard and they're rippled and I'm really excited that I got a bag of it. I'm now waiting for a good time of when I should consume them. I'm really excited about it if you can't tell :)
The highlight was that internet worked at school for abount an hour, and when I was checking my school e-mail I received an e-card from one of my students, Jolie...well really her mom sent it on behalf of Jolie. It was the most unexpected thing that I got that day. It was Jolie's birthday party yesterday at school, and I thanked Jolie's mom for the card telling her that I wasn't expecting it, and her mom responded with "On the day of the Orientation when you asked for the birthdays, I remembered that you said that your birthday was so close to Jolie's" Yup. I may have a new favorite student now, or at least favorite parents.
