I've always asked my friends why does one like to visit London? Well, they mostly say that its the Financial and Cultural Centre of Europe. Well, Financial Centre ... very much so ... how about cultural? That is the subject of a debate that can go on forever, so I won't go there. For me, its often gloomy, wet, cold, and expensive (the exchange rate just kills you) ... not a personal favourite of mine, that's for sure. But one thing is for certain, there are no lack of things to do in London, and if you are willing to pay, all the more so ... :-)
Am here for a couple of meetings, and had a bit of time visit a few sights along the way. I've been to London before so I ain't too enthused about sightseeing ... not much time available anyway. Visited Spurs ground, White Hart Lane, which was a disappointment. Spent a bit of time at the Tower of London which was quite enjoyable. More importantly, I was able to meet up with my friends Jacqueline and Hwee Leng, which was nice. What made the trip worth remembering was this incident during dinner with Jac ...
We were having dinner in an Italian eatery along Market Place (or Street, I can't recall), off Oxford Circus. Jac noticed that the guy who was serving us had a very nice smile on this face and decided to tell him so before we left, saying, 'You have this huge smile of you that comes across very as very cheerful and sincere, and I would like to tell you that I has made my dinner here all the more enjoyable.' The guy was a bit red-faced and thanked Jac but as he walked away behind me, I heard him saying to a fellow colleague, 'This lady over here (pointing to Jac) just told me that my smile has helped made her dinner more enjoyable ... I'm just so tired, but hearing this has just made my day ...'
Lesson learnt ... be generous with your complements if you feel the person deserves it ... it doesn't take much ... but it can give the recipient a much needed lift ...
Of course, I do not need to go all the way to London to learn a lesson like that ... neither does anyone of us ...
cheers
