I started teaching this week at Chongqing University of Technology. I am teaching 5 different classes of Oral English. It should be fun. This week went smoothly. I introduced myself to my students, told them what to expect this semester and explained the grading system. It should be an easy and fun year. I also get to teach in media classrooms. I can use power points and show pictures
I am living on the Old Campus and teaching on the New Campus. It is a similar situation to last year. The old campus is nice and has lots of trees and grass. The new campus is really nice. They have a brand new soccer field, the buildings are great and a lot of little lakes and river
Isabelle is here with me!! It was a tough trip for her. She had three different flights and about 24 hours in her crate, total. She had no accidents and was well behaved when I let her out in the airport. The Chinese are pretty scared of her. They have this image of big dogs being violent. If they only knew how laid back Isabelle is it would be easier. I am not allowed to walk her through the front gate. The guards worry she will scare students. Other than that she is allowed everywhere. Restaurants, shops and most places don't have a problem. My only worry is she won't get enough exercise. It is really hot right now and I when I take her to the park she gets overheated and loses energy. The water here is not clean enough for her to swim. So she can't have a quick swim to cool off. I have been taking her on night walks and she is having a blast chasing cats. She has no chance, but she tries hard. Cats are everywhere!!
My apartment is great this time. A working TV, new furniture, CLEAN, internet access and big. I was really happy when I walked in. It was much better than last year's. My buddies Alex, Pat and I have a maid/cook. She cleans each of our apartments once a week and cooks three times a week. It is great. She started yesterday and is an incredible cook!! All for about 750rmb a month, $120 dollars. Not bad!!!
My car is fine. I park right outside my building and I have had no problems. The drivers in this city are the worst I have seen in the world. It is insane. Left blinkers to go right, cutting you off and doing u-turns in dangerous situations
Pat and I worked out today. A guy we met, Rockie, who we have hung out with a lot helped us find a gym really close and got us a 50% discount. The gym is terrible, but next month they are moving. The new space will be amazing!! They will have all new cardio and weight equipment, dance studio, pole dance studio and $1.50 hour long massages on site!! We are pumped (literally)!! I am also ready to do some pole dancing.
I have included pictures of my apartment and Isabelle and there will be more to come.
