I am also in a mentor group where a few Swedish students have taken about 15-25 of us international students to show us the ropes. It's a great chance to meet people and fun to just sit back and watch people from all over the world try to communicate to one another through broken English, although I get the feeling that a few of them speak better English than I do. With the mentor group we have little get together like showing us around town to pre-parties in their corridors followed up with a night at a nation. We've had a fun bowling night where we went to this small pub after that felt like it was in a basement. A few other normal parties where we go to their corridors, as mentioned above. This past weekend we went to Malmo which is the 3rd largest city in Sweden (gasp in awe) and just a few minutes away.
The thing about going out in Sweden is you always have to go out and dance. It reminds me of the Will Smith movie "Hitch" where Kevin James the fat white guy dances like he is the whitest person on the planet that lacks complete rhythm. To me that's how Swedes dance, it's comical yet very freeing. No longer do you have to worry about how you look dancing. No longer can society hold down your inner urges to dance to Michael Jackson songs. You are free to dance as you please, usually.
Much more will be said on this as the semester progresses as there will be many more nights out and many more stories. But for now, Cheers.
(Also enjoy the pictures of Lund. I figured this would be a good entry to just add a few photos of the town I am living in.)
