On this day the first activity on the the agenda was a dug-out canoe trip down the Rapti river; we were supposed to see alligators, but the weather was against us, so we didn't really see any, but we got to see plenty of storks and kingfishers, with the bright blue plumage.
After the canoe-trip we went to the elephant breeding center, which was nice, but NOTHING compared to the elephant bathing that came later
We had a few hours "off" for lunch, which Bella, Sjöerie and I chose to spend elephant bathing, and elephant bathing is the most fun I have tried in a long, long time - I laughed as a little kid
Elephant bathing consists of you getting up on an elephant, which then walks into the river, where it will suck up water in its trunk to splash all over its "passenger", after that the elephant walks a little further into the river, where it keels over an thus tossing us girls sitting on top of it. Yes, elephants are REALLY big, but we were in deep water and elephants float, so we didn't get hurt, even though the elephant was on top in the fall.
For about 20 min or so we just played around with the elephant, getting tossed and crawling back up onto the elephant. Being done with the playing around, the actual bathing started, all us girls grabbed a big stone, and started scrubbing down the elephant.
Elephants are amazing creatures, they love water and as they use mud as insect repellent, they need to be cleaned every now and then, so why not have fun with it.
Back on the beach we fed the elephant some bananas and headed for the showers, the water we swam around in was not exactly clean, and with ten or so elephants in the water "doing their business" it didn't exactly get cleaner with time.
After lunch I participated in a "deep-jungle jeep-safari" it was okay, but we didn't really see much, and I was so horribly tired that I actually fell asleep at a point.
The evening I spend playing cards and having fun with Bella and Sjöerie from Holland.
