Yet another way too early start...We got up at 3 a.m. to board the busses ridding in convoy at 3.30 going to Abu Simbel situated 3 hours south of Aswan.
Abu Simbel was one of the things I had been looking forward to the most on my trip through Egypt - yes the Pyramids were great but there is just something amazing about the literal interpretation of "moving mountains" that Abu Simbel is.
Abu Simbel was originally build by Ramses the Second, that is Ramses the Great in year 13 hundred BC to commemorate his victory at the Battle of Kadesh. Abu Simbel is in fact two temples one to the honour of Ramses himself, and one to the honour of his beloved wife Nefertari.
The two temples were originally carved into the side of two adjacent hills.
