Our guide Ilhan had promissed us that we would leave the hotel at a decent hour, that decent hour turned out to be 7.40 am, so really not all that decent. From there it was a five hour drive in yet another tiny bus, where my short legs hardly fit between the seats.
Going on busses here in Turkey is quite different from home, as there is a purser on each bus, serving coffee, tea and water at regular intervals.
We arrived in Göcek in time for lunch, but the heat was killing all of us, so we just had meze, which is sorta the Turkish version of tzatziki, served wıth flat bread.
There after we boarded our boat, which was a traditional Turkish gület, eventhough I couldn't see anything traditional about it, it had running fresh water showers, a fridge and a freezeer, lots of space, and never used its sails. But we had a really nice trip on the gület. From the marina we sailed for about 20 min. to a place where we could swim, why I spend the following two hours in the water. I didn't have a thermometer, but I would guess the temperature to be around 25 degrees Celcius.
The late afternoon and early evening was spend in a bikini on the front deck, until it had cooled down a bit and it was time for dinner, around 8 pm. The really exciting thing about this boat was that it had ten sun matresses on the deck covered by a tarp, so we could sleep out doors. During the night it actually got really cold, probably about 23 degrees, so we got to snuggle up in blankets.
The strech of water we sailed in is called 'The Turquoise Coast' but the water was just plain old blue, nothing like the insanely bright waters I saw in Tuvalu and Kiribati last year.
Take care.
Best,
Eva Maria
