no longer in peru, i am in the little town of la fortuna, costa rica!... and finally with some downtime and internet connection i can do a little update!... seriously, it is so hard to believe that three weeks has already gone by and that this coming week i will be back home =(

anyway... ladies and gentlemen - i, eva bong, totally survived the three nights of camping on the inca trail!... thatīs right! that was no typo people! i totally survived camping! the hike to machu picchu was definitely physicially demanding - hiking and climbing up and down endless amounts of stairs while at high altitude and at times in the rain was a challenge!! - but despite it all... machu picchu thus far for me, is hands down the highlight of this trip. i was in quite a bit of pain couple days after the hike ended... but the beautiful view of machu picchu will definitely stay in my memories longer than the pain ever will...

the amazon jungle on the other hand is another story. after a day of recovering from the inca trail and a night of celebrating in cusco, we took a flight to puerto maldanado - one of two main hubs in peru to get to the amazon basin. after disembarking the plane, we hopped on a long thin boat that took us down the tambopata river and brought us our jungle lodge. the lodge was absolutely amazing. the entire place is built entirely from wood. the rooms were simple... with one wall not being a wall - but rather an opening straight into the surrouding rainforest. well... it was amazing until night fall came... and i couldnīt fall asleep! the paranoia of any insects around me kept me awake majority of the night!!... i mean having a mosquito net does not guarantee that everything you want to stay out will right?!... to give myself a little added security i even tried cacooning myself in my blanket  - making a little peep hole around my nose so that i could breathe - but that technique doesnīt even really work - cause then you canīt fall asleep cause you get too hot!... needless to say, the two nights stay in the amazon was two nights too long!!... the days there was even too long - most of the time you will find me running and screaming away from some freak of an insect. i donīt know what ever possessed me to want to go to the amazon in the first place... all i know is... never again!!... sleepless nights... hot and humid weather... cold showers... and above all - gosh awful insects flying above you, at you, crawling around you, up you... ughh!!... that combination there is just not conducive to a fun time!... agree no?

costa rica so far has been fantastic!!... the people and towns here are incredibly beautiful!! today, the ladies and i hiked into a rainforest canyon where we did a series of rappels descending down breathtaking waterfalls!... it was without question a splendid adventure!!... tomorrow, we depart la fortuna and head to the town of monteverde... where more adventure awaits!... i am so not ready for this vacation to come to an end yet!...

i promise i will elaborate on machu picchu sometime soon!!

miss you all so so so much!! hugs and kisses!!
