Where I stayed
Our arrival here in the southern Schwarzwald is of great curiosity as we look for a spa to relax in, which the area is noted for, a wide assortment of wine as this is one of the best regions in Germany, if not worldwide. And a little exploration trip to Switzerland.
After our lunch we decided to head for the hills as walking around outside is insane, so we went down the road in the black forest and followed one of the yellow roads which proved to very interesting as you can truly get a feel for the rural area of Germany with their distinctive houses and little farms situated on the side of a hill, you certainly won’t get that on a Trafalgar trip! Well, about halfway through the trip we came across a Gasthaus on top of this ridge and stopped for supper. It had some absolutely great meals to choose from, too numerous to mention, but all in all, after some good dining, our meal was under € 50 for all three of us, including drinks which was almost unheard of in France. Well, enough for today, as there is no internet access here so we won’t be posting for a couple of days.
Today we are headed for Germany after spending the day at Troyes. It was worth upgrading the room to have air conditioning for one night and get a good night's sleep and not start sweating right away soon after climbing out of the shower. Our trip to Dottingen in Germany which is just outside of Freiburg is just over four hours. On arriving here we were greeted to even warmer temperatures in the high 30’s so after checking into the Gasthaus Engel we headed out looking for something to drink and eat, as we hadn’t eaten since leaving Troyes, which incidentally had the best breakfast so far on our trip, a great assortment of fruit, cheese, bread, juice, and good coffee.
