£ 11 to St.Pancras Train station. Departure time for Paris on the Eurostar was 10:00 AM and the duration is 2 hrs 17 min at 300 km/h. They have a very good security and holding area while you wait for your train . One the train and finally settled in a young man from the USA was sitting with us and was a rowing coach from USC (University of California) who had a wee bit much to drink from watching football in London the other night and was kind of keeping to himself. Once he saw the picnic feast we laid out on the table( meat, cheese, fruit, olives, wine, etc.) and asked if he would like to join us, well he couldn't believe it! Here’s three Canadians having a feast on a train so he just had to take a picture because no one would believe him. Anyway, it was a great lunch, good company, and the time just flew by and before you knew it we had arrived in Paris
Now, arriving in Paris at Guarde de Nord is an experience in itself, you really need to know where you are going when you get here. Signs are not well labelled and it can be confusing unless you study ahead of time. It is essential to know which bus or RER (rail) route and number before you leave or you may get lost.
Anyway, that was an experience unto itself, one that I shall never forget, and it will remind me why a taxi is worth every penny when you have luggage. After about an hour we arrived at our apartment in the Marais District and it was even better than described on the internet. It is situated within walking distance of Notre Dame and we are in the heart of Paris historically, and it is fantastic!
A quick walk to the local supermarket and stock up for a few days and it was off to bed, as we are in the middle of a heat wave here 30 C plus. Tomorrow will be a busy first day.
