Friday July 15th, 2005 - SO....FAR.....TO.....BANK....MACHINE....
We arrived in Roslarre Harbour at around 11:30 in the morning and headed to information to see if they knew where our B&B was. we'd like to stop and say that the Irish are SO NICE!! the info guys not only gave us great help, they actually phoned a cab for us and found someone who KNEW EXACTLY where we were staying. She picked us up and we all chatted the whole way there.
we were met by a wonderfully nice lady who ran the B&B with her husband. she informed us that the shower had broken in the room we were supposed to be in and we were then upgraded AGAIN! we were shown into their "apartment suite" which had 2 rooms, one with a fridge, a tv, a couch, a fluffy chair, and a fireplace and the second room held the bed, another tv and the bathroom. it is amazing and the family is sooooooooo nice.
the only problem came about when we went to find the cash machine. i say "the" because there is ONLY ONE in the town we were staying in and it was situated all the way back by the harbour. we set out to find it and an hour later were still walking along the road thinking...uh...this isn't too good.
we stopped for lunch at an excellent pub that accepted credit cards because all we had were a couple of Eurocents. the meal was most amazing. both of us left with our tummies happy, thinking, "we can do this". fast forward another 30 minutes of walking and we're talking over how much it'd be to rent a car.
we finally found the ATM and it wouldn't let me take out enough so we realized that we'd have to come back and that was it. we decided to head to the port to see how much renting a car would actually cost us. the long and the short of it is we ended up renting a MANUAL silverNissan Micra. now the fact that it was manual posed a slight problem in the fact that Liz knows NOTHING about driving manual and Thomas hadn't really driven standard in a while.
let me say that it was quite an adventure. we jerked a lot and stalled quite a few times. roundabouts were fun and we didn't use the car as much as someone else might have because it caused both of us more stress than possible. haha
Saturday July 16th, 2005 - BOND, JAMES BOND
We got up for our fabulous Irish breakfast this morning and then headed off back to bed. Thomas seems to be coming down with something so it probably did both of us good. we then drove in to the town of Wexford, where we thought we were staying but is actually a 20 minute drive from the village where we actually were. it was a great town once we got there. we set off to walk around and found it to be quite buisier than we had thought it would be. it had everything a small town should have...a sweet shop, cute little family run shops, the pizza shop where after eating we felt kind of sick.
the town was great to walk around and had some nice pubs, but we decided to make use of our wonderful couch while we still had it and headed back to our room. we caught a Bond film and some great British reality tv.
Sunday July 17th, 2005 - LAZY DAYS ARE WONDERFUL
Today we went to a place in the south called Kilmore Quay which sounds like it should be a really nice place and had a festival on today. it should be nice right? well. there was really no sign of this festival anywhere and there were loads of junk piles around. the view of the sea was really nice but we didn't stay long. one highlight was the "Garden" that contains no signs on flowers at all! haha.
we spent the rest of the day with our fabulous tv and rested until about 4pm when we returned our car, which we named Mike (for Micra) a day early. we took a cab back to a pub by the B&B and ate there for dinner. lovely cheesecake.
Thomas is still kinda sniffly and we're both beat. another Bond film is on tonight so we're set!
Monday July 18th, 2005 - 6 HRS OF TRAIN RIDE...DUBLIN IN A DAY = NOT SUCH A GOOD IDEA
Today we woke up super early and the wonderful and super nice man who runs the B&B with his wife actually drove us to the train station in the morning saving us an early cab ride. we then got on the 3 hr train to Dublin and arrived around 10:30ish.
Dublin was a little bit disappointing. I think we were both expecting more of the quaint small town Irish with cobblestones, and there were some, but mostly it's an industrial city. We took a bus tour which was quite good and allowed us to see more than if we had just walked. it was kind of rainy so our rainjackets came in handy.
we set off back home on another 3 hr train ride and vowed to stop with our day trips because it's just too much trian for us now. the ride home seemed to take forever and we fell into bed as soon as we got back in.
