Where to begin?

Ok, the date is set, my children have been told, and my partner Judy, is now used to the idea of my going away (just). So what next?
There is heaps to think about; firstly where am I going? What do I want to see and do?, how am I going to get there?, where am I going to stay?, and not to mention personal safety, health issues and things to take. I have to admit to doing very little preparation thus far, I just have a vague idea of where I would like to travel and a few important things I'd like to see. I am much better at working under pressure and to a deadline and now that there is just over 2 weeks to go, it is full throttle. Listing things helps, and I now have some pretty comprehensive lists covering the key areas.
My excitement is beginning to build, and part of the unpreparedness of it all seems to add to the thrill, after all travellers in a bygone era had little opportunity to get tips and advice via the Internet, or pre-book accommodation. It's back to lists and time to add the meat to them - I'll start with equipment I'm going to take (I love technology and toys)... I wish the latest Sony Ericcson p990i was out already (my awsome P910i was stolen). By the way the best program by far for pulling your notes, web pages, pictures, lists and just about anything into one place to help you prepare is; 'Microsoft's One Note' - it is an awesome piece of software and saves me hours of time.
