on our way to the town of wanaka, we saw a sign that read "want switzerland? go to queenstown. want NZ? go to wanaka." oh, how true that sign was... wanaka is a small lakeside town that many locals label as "queenstown 20 years ago". it's small, quaint and gorgeous. we chose to stay here for xmas eve and xmas, quite frankly, for no other reason than it just fit into our schedule. but it worked out nice... and quiet.

christmas in NZ is very different from xmas at home... remember that NZ is at the bottom of the southern hemisphere and so it's summer in december... the dead of summer.. it's hot and dry... so, in the manner of all things summer, the kiwis celebrate christmas with an outdoor bbq... oh and the did we mention that the sun doesn't set until about 10pm!!! it's pretty freakin nice to have about 16 hours of sunlight each day! so for christmas, eunice and i went to the local market and picked us up some food to BBQ... after all, when in NZ, do as the NZers! we had pork chops and grilled up a variety of different vegetables! delicious! and that was our christmas eve dinner... for christmas, we drove all day to our next destination... all in all, xmas was pretty quiet... we didn't even exchange presents... we figure the trip is present enough...

a couple other things... on our way from queenstown to wanaka, we stopped by a small SMALL town called Cornwell... and we had the BEST sandwiches! even though the town was a ghost town sort of creepy, they knew how to do their sandwiches! delicious!

in wanaka, we visited place called puzzling world... it's a small park sort of deal created with all sorts of puzzles from a giant maze to tabletop puzzles to various holograms... the room of illusions was pretty cool, but gave eunice and me motion sickness... check out the pics!
