Flag of Switzerland  , Swiss Alps,

For some reason, I had always assumed Switzerland was entirely covered by the Alps. Surprisingly, I was wrong. You can actually be in Switzerland without being in the Alps, which was a bit of a disappointment for me when it turned out my friend was living in the non-Alps part of Switzerland.

Luckily, he planned a weekend trip to Interlaken, which is a town between two lakes: Thuner See and Brienzer See. We're actually staying in a hotel in a bit outside of town, but up in the hills, so its got an awesome lake view. I'm sitting out on the patio, looking out over the lake as the sun is setting. This totally makes up for that port-a-potty view out of my hotel window back in Arizona.

He had to work today, so we didn't get here until late in the afternoon. Still, we found time to fit in a quick trip to see the Giessbach waterfall and dinner by the lake in Iseltwald. If your looking for a Swiss chalet, they're building about 20 of them there. It looks like it will double the town size. I've been told there are really strict building codes in Switzerland these days, so you have to build things keeping to the existing regional style.
