Today was a relaxed lie in after the hectic crowds and rushing around in Lucca and particularly Florence. We headed off about 11am to the nearby town of Pietrasanta. It was about 20 minutes away however after a few wrong turns following "emily" (our friendly GPS) we finally made it in about 40 minutes. We parked near the railway station and wandered across in to the old town entering via the old city gate and into the central square "Piazza del Duomo".
What a change from Florence, it was quiet and very picturesque. The town is known for marble and sculpture and there are a number of them in the main square. As a result of the nearby marble quarries it is also very "arty". We wandered through the narrow streets looking in all the shops and boutiques. The girls bought a couple of items but in main very restrained - I think there will be a repeat shopping excursion here.
At 1:30pm the shops all closed so we returned to the main square and settled into a long lunch. It was great looking out on to the square with all the sculptures and Duomo di San Martino (with its unmistakable red brick tower). Lunch definitely had a seafood flair with Ethan having a seafood pizza and some of us having a variety of seafood platters. It was all delicious.
After the boys had a quick haircut at the local hairdresser we travelled home via the beach. This is know as Marina d Pietrasanta. It was the typical Mediterranean beach with sunbeds and cabanas as far as the eye could see. After a walk along the beach we headed home for a swim and huge roast beef cooked by our resident expert chef Bill (Heathers sister Hilda's husband).
In the evening Colin and Heather started up a bit of a party night while Sam, Jack and Cesare went in and picked up Sam from Pisa Airport.  Sam made it safely to the villa after a huge 36 hours of flying and changing planes and was in remarkably good form when he arrived at the villa.
Heather and Colin of course partied on.....
