We've travelled another 4 hours today and have come to the end of our trip down the coast. We started at Carmel and first travelled back to Monterey to stock up on groceries. Next we drove the 17-Mile Drive, a scenic route around the Monterey Peninsula. We stopped off on the way at some rocks, but the freezing wind turned us back pretty quickly.

We then continued down the coast highway, enjoying the scenery, until we found big signs stating the road was closed ahead. After a quick look at the maps, it became apparent we'd have to turn around and go all the way back to Monterey which as you can imagine was not the most well received news. So after a quick bite to eat, we did just that.

After finding out that after we'd spent 4 and a half hours to get back to where we started, we decided the freeway was probably the best option to reach the campsite before nightfall. So the afternoon was spent cruising down a particularly unspectacular highway.

This evening we set up camp, and headed down to Pismo Beach across the road to watch the sunset. We then had dinner and an early night, ready for an early start tomorrow morning to Hearst Castle (we'd missed out on the last tour by about 20 minutes, so we're heading back up the coast tomorrow morning about and hour and a half).
