Day 11 Travel to Udaipur
Long car journey today from Jaipur to Udaipur - about 8 hours!
Spectacles along the highway:
3 lane highway - motorway speeds! gap in central reservation - bus decided to make a u turn - let passengers out into path of oncoming traffic! (All ok as traffic not heavy at that moment!)
People hanging out of the back of jeeps
People sitting in flat bed trucks
Few motor cyclists wear helmets - even on motorway!
Women in saris riding pillion side saddle!
Man clambering on roof of lorry onto cab roof then into side window all whilst lorry careering along!!!
Woman with goat in back of transit van.
Man standing on the V of an electric pylon pulling on the wire!
Man having a full body wash outside truck stop
"Panther crossing" sign outside Udaipur
We're now in the most beautiful hotel - the Udai Kothi hotel in Udaipur (Google it!) Can't believe we're staying in such a lovely place!
Udaipur is known as the "Lake City" - much smaller then the other cities so far, with only 500,000 people.
We went for a stroll after checking in - Mick needed a haircut so we spotted a barber in a tiny little shop about 6x6 feet! He was a tiny little man though so he fitted the shop! Mick was his first customer all day because Tuesdays are apparently dedicated to the Monkeyman god called Hanoman - and men don't shave or get haircuts in his honour!! So he was delighted to have a customer! Mick had the best haircut he's ever experienced, and a thorough Indian head massage and acupressure on back, neck, arms shoulders to boot! He only wanted 1.50 but Mick gave him 5 and promised to go back for a shave!
I was having great fun just people watching - it was a very narrow little street but unbelievably busy with cars, motorbikes, vans, and pedestrians as well as the odd passing cow!!!
