Tiger Den Resort
We left Agra early this morning to drive to a town in Rajasthan called Bharattpur. Funny sight on the way - motorbike pillion passenger holding hand of cyclist to pull him along faster!
We were met at the station by a Mr Vishnu who guided us through the melee to the right bit of platform (a work in progress) to await our train. We were minded for a while by a Tourist Assistance Officer who was very diligent in his duties!
We seemed to attract quite a lot of attention from bystanders on the platform! Evidently its not rude to eavesdrop or stare here! We were shown onto a train which was to take us to a town near Ranthambore National Park.
We had a first class air conditioned carriage which contained another passenger who was stretched out on his bunk under a blanket
He acknowledged our presence with a nod then proceeded to recline budda - like and loudly clear his sinuses for the next couple of hours in between calls on his mobile and singing some Indian pop song to himself!!
I did try and ask him some questions in the way of making conversation but he had no English and I quickly discovered that head waggling makes it hard to tell if they mean yes or no!
We had been provided with a lunchbox each but didn't eat all of it so Mick gave one to a couple of street urchins who grabbed it without hesitation and looked delighted!
We were collected at the destination by jeep and deposited at Tiger Den resort. See photos of very nice clean lodge!
We are the only Uk folk here - the rest are Germans on a coach trip!
Next it was squeezing into a 6 (slim!) seater jeep for our first safari! Beautiful mountainous landscape and deciduous forest. We saw Antelope, Deer, Vultures, a Raptor (bird) peacocks, a very good sighting of the rare balck sloth bear, some clear tiger footprints......but alas - no tiger today!
Let's see what tomorrow brings!
