In San Rafael there was plenty of stuff to do. About 30km froim the town there is a spectacular gorge, called Valle Grande, where you can do various watersports as well as horseriding. We went a couple of days in a row.

The first day we went to the reservoir behind the dam, hired kayaks and rowed across to the sandy island in the middle. It has been very hot lately, and the day was no exception. I think I burnt the soles of my feet on the scorching sand!

The second day we were tempted to try whitewater rafting, but the river looked a bit tame for a big floating boat, so Rick got us to try Cool River. I´m not sure what you´d call it in English, ´tubing´ according to Peter. The Argentines pronounce the R of River very hard, so it ends up like co-o-o-ol r-r-r-r-r-river! You don a lifejacket and helmet, and get onto this small inflated C-shaped craft with two arm handles, and float down the river right through the rapids. We did a 12km stretch that took us just over an hour over the various grade 2/3 rapids in the river. It was much more exciting than rafting in the same conditions, and since it was over 30C outside, the river water felt very refreshing!

We also went to a couple of vineyards on the third day we were in San Rafael, and although it was nice to learn about wine-making and vine-growing and very interesting to learn how ´champagne´s´ are made, I think I know enough now to not go again - you just don´t get enough of a taste of it!
