The Canadians left last Friday, and a crop of five new volunteers arrived Sunday, bringing our number back to the original ten. This time there's one guy, which will make for an interesting dynamic. But Brian seems like the kind of dude who can handle it. He lives in the Boston area, too, and is taking a year off from studying at Northeastern, so we've had lots to talk about.
Cie is the only volunteer I've met so far with a kid at home; Bishnu had a son in college, and the rest of us are childless. Her daughter is 13. Like my own mom, Cie is a workout fiend with more energy than I have, and she seems like a fun person.
I'm slowly getting acquainted with the others; I've been especially antisocial since getting sick yesterday, and I'm staying home from my placement today. Caroline is the only newbie in our room, and Anna is the only one remaining from the original group in her room. I guess they grouped us more by age than length of stay, because she has another month here; she'll see most of these new volunteers through the end of their stays as well. But they seem like a good group overall. At least they're not afraid of doing dishes.
