Pre-trip jitters, quivvers and thoughts!
Entry 1 of 56 | show all | print this entry |
Panic is setting in and bowels are beginning to block. I can't comprehend the thought of being stuck in a jungle village when they eventually drop.
Well, it's 2 weeks to go and i'm all set to experience something that could quite possibly change my perspective on life, forever. It's been so strange saying goodbye to everyone in work, but somehow, i don't feel like it's a real goodbye...I get the feeling I'll be seeing them all again soon (i know where you live Sharon and Liz..he he he!..you aint seen the back of me yet). I mean 13 weeks isn't that long after all eh!
The plan, Bolivia and beyond, well not that far beyond...Peru actually... but it sounds a bit better eh. Starting my scheduled activies on Monday 16th October in a language college in Sucre (The colonial capital) where I'll be learning la lingo por favor! and hopefully getting some cultural activies in the bag...I'm hoping salsa dancing and Bolivian traditional cooking are on the agenda for that. While I'm on the course, which is for 4 weeks, I'll be staying with a Bolivian family. Im still trying to think of something nice to take for them as a gift when I arrive...nah...who am I kidding, I'm special enough...lol! (seriously though, any ideas would be great if you fancy messaging me).
From there, I've not made any plans and I have around 5 weeks to swan around as I wish, get into trouble and get involved in some Guerrilla activity wherever possible....he he...only joking Mum...and get on my travelling toes and do some exploring. Hopefully I won't have scared too many people off by then so I may have some company:-P
Finally, on the last leg of my trip, I'v arranged a voluntary placement which is based in an indiginous village near Lake Titicaca. There I'll be working in a school over the Christmas and New year period, so I'll possibly be doing some lovely Christmassy things with the kids. This ends the first weeks in January and I'm due home 13th January.
Saying goodbye to everyone is going to be quite difficult for me, as many of you will know. The most difficult bit though will probably be not being able to text everyone to death every day...I'm sure you'll all miss Stephie's 25 long text messages....always got too much to say. I'm pretty sure I've gone over my 500 text allowance this month actually (yet another un-budgeted expense...along with all the socialising i've been trying my hardest not to do). As if 500 texts isn't excessive enough in the first place, but i have managed to go over by a few hundred on this occasion and on the odd other occasion (Jen this month might even beat your monthly text message record...lol).
Anyway, bringing it back (God who's idea was it for me to do a blog, you're ll going to be bored before I land), I'm hoping that you'll all email me or message me through this site so I can keep a good link with home and don't miss out on a tap. I suppose I'll be able to provide some light entertainment in return.
So far in planning this trip, I'm supposed to have done a lot of things, that I haven't bothered my arse to do, such as trying out if all of my stuff fits in my rucksack and testing the anti malaria tablets to make sure I don't suffer from any crown green bowls size boils anywhere on my bod...or become so photosensitive i look like Jodie Marsh (Eww)....I suppose I'll do that all on Stephie time...the day before I fly! What i'm planning to do this weekend is sort a first aid kit out (with Mummy's help...she's makes a bad ass first aid kit) which if any of you comedians fancies making any serious (or i suppose not so serious) recommendations then i'd be grateful of your input. So far I've got my jabs, booked my flight and bought some toiletries. My supply consists of 3 months supply of wet botty wipes and 3 months supply of antibacterial hand gel (thanks for the tip Luisa) oh, and a shed load of small packets of aloe vera handy pack tissues, as from my indepth (ha!) research I get the feeling that there are no toilet facilities, eg no sanny bins, no running water, no paper, just simply a toilet and quite possibly a door (if i'm lucky).
Anyhoo...looking forward to my night out a week Saturday - will be great fun - I'll be the one with the large compass on my head singing "She'll be coming round the mountain" or yes Steve, quite possibly after a few beers singing Bob Dylan ;-)
"I'm gonna travel the world that's what i'm gonna do...then come back and see yooooo!"
Question for my guests - i'm thinking about doing a thread or a theme for my journal and photgrapohic log. Maybe you could suggest some ideas. I was thinking food or possibly hats. I'd be more than happy to hear your ideas.
Before I next write...why not fly a kite? (oh my god that's profound)
