Wow. What a day! We drove north out of Flagstaff this morning and went from forrest into miles and miles of desert. Wow. Hot and arid, but beautiful. The further north we went the more the landscape changed. Large outcroppings of rock formations became mountains. Sparse vegetation became trees and then forrest again, into the mountains. Wow. How to describe a landscape that changes every few minutes. Beautiful. What beautiful colors and variations of strata in the rock.
We even saw a PowWow in progress. How did we know that's what it was? A sign at the road said "PowWow Today" with and arrow pointing the way. As we came more northward we drove across the massive Lake Powell Dam. We went into the visitor's center and would have taken a tour of the dam, but time was tight and the next one was over an hour away.
In here somewhere we found out that our little plan of using our cell phones to communicate from car to car was not going to work
We had planned to go to Zion National Park, then on to our hotel in Cedar City, Utah. But as I said, it was getting late, so we decided that since we were scheduled to stay three nights in Cedar City, that we would back-track to Zion tomorrow and give it our full attention. And what a lucky decision that was. Otherwise we might have missed a great thing here in Cedar City. As we came into town, we had to detour around the downtown area to get to our hotel because there was a great festival going on. There was a car show/ rennaisance festival/ carnival going on. This looked like fun and just what the boys needed after a long day of driving.
We went to our hotel and checked in, found our rooms, put in some stuff, and went to dinner. Afterwards, we went to the festival and the boys got to do two of their favorite things... eat cotton candy and jump in the inflatable 'bounce house' while I took some pictures. We then went back to the hotel and the boys went swimming. Whew. All tuckered out.
This is a beautiful town and I'm glad we'll be staying here a while. Not to mention the fact that we have Wi-Fi and Cell Service! Boy, are we spoiled or what?
Well, I'm going to attempt to upload some photos and put them into the 'album' form at the top of this page. There will be some from yesterday and some from today. Hopefully they will be self-explanatory. All the cowboy stuff was from the train trip and the canyon pics... well, you know. Maybe then I'll fee 'caught up'. Maybe not. Wish me luck...

. Duh. I then got the bright idea of buying a pair of two-way radios, which we did at the next opportunity. They worked great till the batteries gave out. I'm charging them up tonight so they should be in use daily from here on out.We had planned to go to Zion National Park, then on to our hotel in Cedar City, Utah.
