The seven lakes tour
Having spent so much time in the Argentinian lake district, it was a shame that I hadn´t done the famous 7 lakes route yet. Numurous times people had been recommending this to me, travel guides call it one of the most beautifull one day road trips and now, when Colleen, Carey and Isabelle decided to go there it was my moment! We booked a tour, but should just have taken the bus, which is only half the price, does the same route, but doesn t stop for photo´s along the way. It was a nice landscape we drove through and indeed, we passed 7 lakes, but for all of us it was a bit of a disappointment, probably because of our expectations that were set a bit too high. It ´s realy nice, but not wow.
Cerro Colorado
Arrived at San Martin de los Andes, at the other end of the seven lakes route,
we inmediatly decided to go compensate for those laisy christmas days. A nice walk lead us up to Cerro Colorado, from where we had amazing views, 360degrees around, the lakes to the south and to the north the perfect, snowcapped shape of volcano Lanin.
The skill hill
On our way back we asked the taxi driver for suggestions for a walk for the next day. He had an idea, we trusted him, but when the next morning he dropped us at the bottem of a ski hill and told us it was a nice walk up to the top, just walking under de different ski lifts, we wer a bit skeptical. It turned out to be amazing fun thoug. After a few minutes three dogs joined us, when they were still with us when we ate a snack
after an hour, we nicknamed them Grandpa (clearly the old guy), Stumpy ("I got no legs!") and Pukey (he puked some nasty things right next to us when he tried to eat the piece of bread we gave him). They stayed with us for the whole walk. The last bit was steep and on lose rock, but for the view on top and the fun on the ski lift and on the snow patches on the way back down, it was very much worth it. Almost back down, Carey and I were attacked by some aggresive kind of birds, to whoms nest we had clearly come too close to their liking. But we defended ourselfs bravely (or did we run away screeming?) and survived also this adventure!
We capped this great week in fantastic company with a cheese fondu, the first one for Colleen and Carey. And as the first time always hurts a little bit, they walked back to the hostal with a brick in their stomacs and the very firm convictions they would never eat cheese fondu again.
