Finally arrived in Pisco, after 24 hours of traveling. A bit tired and I have to stay up now until tonight, to adjust to the new time zone (Belgian time -7).
The journey started in yesterday in zaventem. A Virgin express flight brought me to Madrid. There I had a short moment of panic when my next flight, with low cost operator Air Madrid, wasn´t on the schedule board. "That s what happens when you book with obscure operators" I started to think, but asking around made clear that I had to go to another terminal by bus. A long bus ride, to clearly the oldest terminal of the airport, brought me to the check in for the flight to Lima. A very long line, with most of them Peruvians, was already waiting there, more than three hours before take off. It was immediately the first contact with the latin culture. And that s when I first started to fully realize the fact that I am going to be amongst strangers for the next 12 months. People looked different, acted different, I couldn´t read there faces, they were very chaotic,... , and this while I was still in Madrid.
The flight was OK, in a half full plane I found a place to completely lay down, so I managed to sleep for 5 hours or so. After arrival in Lima I took a taxi to the bus terminal and after not much longer than an hour I was already leaving the capital with its sad weather. After 4 more hours, I arrived in Pisco, a small town which is famous with tourists mostly because of the Islas Ballestas and the Paracas National Park that are nearby. Tomorrow I will visit those and than on to La Paz, the actual starting point of my trip. Pisco is mainly to rest before the 30 hour bus drive to La Paz...
