Walking through the Forests
Walking through the Forests

I was really lucky because one of my very good friends, Mary Ann was able to come over and visit me for ten days. In New Zealand, ten days really isn't enough time...so I planned a little itinerary for her that kept us PRETTY busy!

I met Mary Ann at the international terminal in Auckland and ran her to domestic to catch a flight over to GREAT BARRIER ISLAND. This is the largest of the Gulf Islands in Auckland and is absolutely amazing. No one goes there really...so naturally I just had to go! There is no established electricity, only generators so we used our flashlight a lot!

Unfortunately it rained all weekend. Fortunately for us some very friendly locals found us at the only cafe on the island and brought us along with them. A lot of them live off of the land and sea.

They had just come back from a fishing trip and invited us to dinner...the freshest scallops and fish ever. Some how they talked me into helping them fillet the fish for dinner....yuck. I did a pretty good job though, I was pretty proud of myself!

As we left on Monday the sun started to shine, so we were able to catch some rays at the beach before we headed back to Auckland!
