We reached the DFW airport and began lugging all of our baggage into the United Airlines departure gate. We have decided to go through quite a few Asian countries on our way to Thailand as too get more acclimated to the culture before we actually get there. Once at the counter we found out that our bags were too big so we had to do some clever rearranging and leave some things behind with my parents. We checked our bags and received our boarding passes for the first leg of our flight.
Now came the time that I was dreading. I had to say goodbye to my mother, father and little brother. I love them all dearly but saying goodbye to my brother was the toughest. I have always been extremely close with him and hate that I am going to be away from him for a year. I am going to miss a lot of important moments in his life. He will be getting his drivers license soon and going out a lot more often. Maybe it's good I'm missing some of that!
With one last look back we were going through airport security. Having checked my huge piece of luggage all I had with me was my giant backpack with everything I need to survive a small earthquake in it! It is entirely too heavy, but what are you going to do when you feel like you have to pack your whole life in two bags?? We sat and waited to board the flight in a nearly empty airport. I guess nobody wanted to fly on September 11th, go figure! We boarded the flight at 6:30PM Los Angeles bound!!
