Today, I began my journey to the north of Japan on local trains. I left Osaka Station at noon and arrived at Tokyo Station at 9:08 pm. I then caught the Moonlight Echigo (night train) from Shinjuku in Tokyo to Murakami, arriving at 5:49 am. This night train did not have beds or rooms like you are probably thinking; it was a fairly normal train, but it had reclining seats and restrooms. After this long night, I was on my last leg and boarded a train from Murakami to Sakata arriving at 8:18 am on March 2. (I am going to place map pins without entries so that my path across Japan is visible.)
