06/20/06:
Budapest - The Danube River snakes through the middle of this city, separating the old and new towns from each other. Along its banks however, on both sides, many lavish government and historical buildings grace its shores.
The city itself is very big, which gave both Mike and I quite the challenge of wandering its streets for hours on end. Budapest however turns out to be on of the hottest cities on this very planet (or at least it seemed that way to us) and so we sought refuge from the heat many times. Ducking into dark cafes and jumping onto a Danube River tour we were able to cool off and learn a little about the city. We explored the castle and adjoining cathedral and stumbled upon an underground tour of a of labrynth caves displaying replicas of prehistoric and historic art - also a welcome break from the heat
Budapest was a little too much for me as I was hit with sunstroke and was briefly knocked out of commission for a night. (This has not happened to me since I was a kid!) I guess Mike and I tried to do a little too much during the day and I ended up paying the small price of being confined to bed for a few hours.
Not to worry! I recovered, albeit a little ungracefully, but I am back on track and ready to experience the next 10 day of our adventure!
