25/05/06: Canadians in Edinburgh
It appears as though Canadians are taking Scotland (and the UK) by storm. We have run into quite a few people trying to tackle the UK in a whirl-wind tour. Edinburgh seems to be a traveller's hub, as many people either start their tour of the UK here or end it here. Its a great town for hanging out for a few days, seeing sights, learning some history and exploring the near-by Scottish highlands (including Lochness). Mike and I will be making our way up there in the next few days. We decided the Fiesta has had a good enough break sitting in the airport parking lot - and we need to stretch its legs in the highlands for a few days. We have a brochure of the hostels to stay in during our tour and hopefully we can get a glipse of Nessie in her natural habitat. The scenery is supposed to be beautiful and I am excited to see my very first Hairy Cow (pronounced: Hey-Lee Koo
Last night Mike and I hit the town with a girl we met from Vancouver and a couple of Edmontonians. We knew they were good guys to hang around because instead of searching the town for good looking girls, they were more concerned with finding a bar kind enough to have playoff hockey on the tube. Aparently Edmonton is up on the Mighty Ducks and could perhaps end up in the finals! GO CANADA!
Today we hiked up Arthur's seat - which turned out to be a bigger hike than we first anticipated. This was a welcome challenge as both Mike and I are feeling the wrath of English/Scottish cuisine and beer. I don't know how they do it! Vegetables are scarce and a diet of cheap chocolate bars and sandwiches doesn't do much for the physique. However, we worked out our dietary frustrations on our journey up the craigs and cliffs of Aurther's seat, broke out in a good sweat (which felt great!) and are now enjoying a latte in the comforts of a FREE internet cafe.
On the agenda for today : Wandering the streets of the new town, a picnic in Princes Street gardens, and some HAGGIS for dinner. Yes, you heard me - I will be eating Haggis for tonight's dining experience. When in Rome...... I heard sheep's stomach goes well with a nice glass of red wine. I'll keep you updated.

PS - Grandpa - I uploaded a picture for you... You'll know it when you see it. You look a little hairy, don't you think?
