We spent our first and only night in Athens at the airport finding our friends, Monte and Tyler, and then escorting them back to the hotel while stopping for some cheap gyros on the way. Our hotel is in a nice part of town but our room is tiny. I don't even know how they managed to shove four beds into a room that is no bigger than mine. The one saving grace is AC, that is huge.
The day we spent in Athens was spent at a flea market, the Plaka district, and the Acropolis. The flea market happens every saturday and is supposedly a must see if you are in Athens, unfortunately, it was just a flea market
The Acropolis was the one major sight we saw during the day. After the exhausting hike up the side, we finally reached the top and checked out the old ruins. The Parthanon was impressive but it was halfway covered in scaffolding. It was still cool but I hate all the eye sores in the way. The views and the old ruins on the Acropolis were really cool but the heat was so oppressive(110 degrees) that we were happy to get out of there.
After that, we headed down to the port to catch yet another ferry to Ios. I have decided that I hate ferries. You spend your nights sitting on the deck while people make tons of noise and walk all over the place. You can't get a good nights rest if you tried and with how loud everyone is, you hardly even want to try. We did meet some nice Aussie girls who made the trip more enjoyable but we also met a loud and obnoxious English dude who then cancelled out the good we got from the Australians. We kinda judge things like that. Plus 3 for cool Australian chicks but minus 2 for an annoying English guy = friend math.
We FINALLY arrived in Ios after 9 hours on the boat and were more than happy to get off and sit by the beach.
