We arrived in Bordeaux after deciding to pass on more Pamplona. It is just too dirty, too grungy, too gross, and after 3 nights in Biarritz, we found it would be hard to go back to Pamplona. We decided to venture up to Bordeaux before heading down south of France and skipping out on any more Spain or Portugal. So we arrived in Bordeaux and found our hotel(hotels here are almost cheaper than hostels) almost immediately. It has been such a struggle to find our hotel or hostel that when it goes smoothly, it makes the day so much better
Again, it is a classic French town with restaurants everywhere and a great pedestrian city center. I don't know how this town manages it but they allow almost no cars within a 8 block radius of the city center. It is all pedestrian and it is packed. We wandered around this area and then went to check out the main church in town. It wasn't overly impressive but the tower than lies 15 meters off to the side was well worth the 200 plus stair climb. We got a great view of the city and somehow managed to smile for a couple of pictures despite being a bit winded. Afterwards we went back to the hotel and I dyed Ryan's hair a nice auburn color. He has a girlfriend back home and I think his goal is to look as sloppy as possible for the next three months to help fend off any interested women. He is going to grow his hair into a sick Mohawk mullet that is extremely popular over here(I am being absolutely serious about that) and his facial hair is going to start taking all sorts of weird shapes. Should be an interesting couple of months with him.
Tonight we are going to walk around town and then head in for an early night. We have an 8:30 train to Carcassone tomorrow and unless something interesting turns up, I don't see much in Bordeaux to keep me from getting my sleep.
