I'm sitting on the bank of the Seine soaking up as much of the city as I can before I leave. I have a great view of Notre Dame from my spot across the river from Ile de la Cite. I'm planning on staying until the sun goes down so that I can experience the magic of Paris one last time...

This morning, I went to the Opera Garnier, the famous opera house in the heart of Paris. The exterior of the building was beautiful, but the interior was magnificent. The grand staircase was a little underwhelming, but there was one long hall that was ornately decorated with golden chandeliers, mirrors, and painted murals. It was absolutely stunning. Kind of made up for not going into the Palace of Versailles.

Around me, people are sitting by the river, enjoying the nice breeze. It's quite hot out, but a lot cooler in the shade. Couples are talking, one man is sketching, many are alone. It's really relaxing here.

After the Opera Garnier, I went inside Galeries Lafayette. Much like Harrod's in London, it would have been more intetesting if I had more expensive taste. I left quickly and took the metro to Place de la Bastille. I saw the monumental column in the centre and then walked to Place des Vosges, which was a very pretty park. I walked all the way back to Notre Dame, and now, I'm here sitting by the Seine.

The first thing I did this morning was go to Gare du Nord to book my train ticket to Brussels on the high-speed Thalys train. Thalys operates the only direct train between Paris and Brussels and takes about an hour and a half. Initially, I wasn't going to take this train because it would cost 30 euros, even with my Eurail Pass. But, it will be the fastest and most convenient way to get to Belgium.

Once I get to Brussels, I'll store my backpack at the station and have a look around that city. Then, I'll make my way to Bruges. I only have one night booked so far. I'll see when I get there if I want to stay longer.
