I got up late again this morning and decided to do some laundry. There's a laundromat right beside the hostel, but it was closed when I tried to go last night. It was a little tricky to operate the machines as everything was in French, but I eventually got the washer to work. The wash cycle would take a while so I went to grab a snack at a nearby corner store.

Once my clothes were all nice and clean, I took the metro to Montparnasse and walked around. I decided to rent a bike again and rode down to the Luxembourg Gardens, which is a very pretty park, but you're not allowed to bike around inside. I didn't know this until a couple of park officers told me to get off.

I left and ended up lost and going around in circles near the St. Sulpice Church. That area had some really beautiful architecture and narrow cobblestone lanes. I dropped the bike off and took the metro to see the Centres Georges Pompidou.

It is a gigantic modern building that houses a library and a couple of museums. The library is the only way to get in for free, but I had to line up for about half an hour. I thought that I might be able to use a computer to upload some photos, but wasn't able to. I have taken lots of pictures so far and really want to add some to this blog!

I'm currently sitting in the park by Notre Dame again. I wish it would get dark soon, but that won't be for a couple hours. I bought a postcard from one of the riverside vendors for 50 cents. Buying that souvenir made me a little sad. One day, I'll come across this postcard and remember this trip, hopefully, with lots of good memories. It's still hard to believe I'm in Europe, but I better make the most of my time here!

UPDATE: I'm sitting on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, enjoying the spectacular night view of Paris. It's much less busy and a lot quieter than on the second floor, which I took the elevator up to earlier. I sort of like the views better from the first floor; you feel closer to all the sights.

I ended up taking the elevator instead of the stairs because I lined up in the wrong line. It only took half an hour to reach the counter. I met a couple in front of me who asked me to take their picture while lining up. They were Filipinos living in Antwerp and were visiting Paris together for the first time. They were going to the top floor of the Eiffel Tower, which would have been another 45 minute wait on the second floor. They recommended I visit Antwerp and we ended up exchanging contact information.

Paris looks so peaceful from above. The city looks like it's moving in slow-motion. Every so often, there is a light show where the whole tower sparkles with blue lights. Whenever that happens, you can see all the flashes from the cameras on the ground. The Eiffel Tower is one of my favourite attractions so far and I'm really lucky to be able to enjoy this view.
