Hi Everybody!
So after our last blog, we went to the cooking class. We didn't so much cooking but more looked at the lady preparing it and took down the recipee as she was making it...and then the best part...we ate it. SOOO GOOOD! AFter that, we went to ship all of our clothes and I'm still debating to order one more jacket from them!! So tempting! After that, we got on the bus for Hue. Of course, the bus was late by about an hour and we drove around the city to come back to point A an hour later!! No surprise with the buses here! SO we made it in Hue just in time to catch the next bus to Hanoi. Hue looked like a really cool city but too bad we do not have time to stop and visit it. The first bus ride was so hot as the A/C had broken down (also very usual) but the second one was good. It is so funny to see that we are the only cheap foreigners on the seater bus and all the other ones pay the extra 10$ to have a sleeper bus!! OH well, we slept fine enough.
We arrived in Hanoi at about 7 am. WE got a hotel and then relaxed for a bit. It is HOT here. I don't know if I talked about it before, but Vietnamese are obsessed with having white skin. So they were full length jeans, socks with their sandals, long sleeves, gloves, hats, and face masks and scarfes to protect their neck!! I don't know how they can survive in this heat!
So anyways, today we walked around town going to 2 temples and a memorial house. We also went to the market and tonight we are planning to go to the water puppetry show....apparently a speciality here!? We shall see what it looks like. WE also booked two tours for the rest of our stay in Vietnam. Tomorrow morning, we leave for Halong Bay for a 2 day trip and one night on the bus. Thursday night, we go to Sapa, in the north of Vietnam for 3 days where we will do some trekking. AFter that, we leave for Laos. We are still trying to figure out a way to get there. Flying is pretty expensive...about 150$ each and busing is about 36 hours!! The bus is obvioulsy much cheaper but not appealing at all.!! and we have to take into account lost days on transportation. We will probably not be able to give news for the next week or so as we will be on a boat, or remote areas which I'm guessing don't have internet. So parents, don't worry all is fine!
