Buckle up...it's gonna be a bumpy one!
Entry 3 of 40 | show all | print this entry |
So Yesterday, we left Bangkok pretty early in the morning to cross the boarder to Cambodia. We are going to Siem Reap to see the famous temple of Angkor Wat. Our guidebook said that it would be a long and adventurous journey...that is what we were about to discover.
We took the skytrain to the bus station in Bangkok and that was pretty cool as it is super modern. We then boarded the bus and made our way to Aranyaprathet, a city only 5 km from the boarder. There, tons of tuk-tuk drivers were all over us to get into their tuk-tuk and reach the boarder. We then had our first tuk-tuk ride...pretty cool!! We left Thailand and entered Cambodia. It was quite something I must say. As soon as we approached the boarder, tons of little kids ran after us begging us for money. You could see their parents in the back waiting for the money to be brought...quite sad and I felt like a douche not giving anything but we shouldn't encourage kids doing that kind of stuff. As soon as we crossed the boarder, we had a cambodian trying to sell us a taxi ride to Siem Reap. The city is situated only 150km away from the boarder but our book said that it would take a while as it is not paved. So the guy tried to tell us all sort of bullshit to get us on his bus. He lied and was asking for way too much and even tho we kept saying no, he followed us for quite a while. Luckily, we found another couple from Australia that were going to Siem REap as well. We eventually found a taxi that would take us there for 50 US $. The AC in the car felt so good!!
So we left for Siem Reap..OH MY GOD. Sketchtyness just got a whole new meeting!!! It is more than a bumpy road...there are holes everywhere and cars travel on both sides of the road. REally there are no rules. You drive wehere teh road seems the best and that isw it! You pass people so close and I thought we would hit a bike or moto quick enough. People are piled up on the motss, sometimes up to four people!!! It's actually quite hard to explain but I had the adrenaline going the whole way. It took us 3 hours to reach the city and thank god our driver was that good because it was quite the sketchy road.
We went out and about around the city for the night and grabbed some traditional khmer food which was of course delicious.
Today, we got up quite early, 4h40 am to go see the sunrise at angkor wat t\emple. WE had our tuk tuk driver picking us up and driving us there. There were loads of tourist as expected but it was wll worth it! We walked around and spent the day explorng the rest of the temples surronding ANgkor Wat. We went to visit Ta Prohm, the temple where they filmed Tomb Raider. Everything was really nice and the visit was quite worth it. After about 8 hours of walking around the temples, we decided to go bacck to the hostel to rest a bit before dinner. Tomorrow we are heading to BAttambang!

Soyez prudents.
