Where I stayed
Our accommodation was pretty basic and we took envy on the many honeymoon resorts we came across, however, our envy was diminished when we were informed that the humpback whales had been hanging out, right in front of our hotel - in view from our balcony (something that most of the island would not get to see from there hotels as there is a shallow lagoon that surrounds the majority of the island). Amy kept her eyes peeled and sure enough on the third day there they were swimming happily and breaching– fantastic
We hired a moped to explore the island, James had to take a 10 minute test at the police station to obtain his license, which will now be valid for a year. Unfortunately the weather was not up to much and two out of the three days were pretty cloudy. On the third day Amy decided to take a diving lesson, (yep, that's right John Spreckley!) whilst James relaxed on the beach. The dive instructor showed useful tips for rubbing the coral together and attracting the fish –hundreds of them. Once we had received a taster of the marine life, we spent plenty of time snorkelling which was by far the best we have seen so far (sorry Lazy Beach but you have been trumped).
On our final day we had to drop the motorbike off at one of the Paradise Hotel (one of the honeymoon resorts) who gave us complimentary use of the facilities - wow were we in for a treat! We kayaked round the islands, lay on the luxury sun loungers and showered in one of the most luxurious hotel rooms we have seen on this trip!
Later that evening we travelled to the airport and were shocked to find everything closed, thankfully minutes later everything opened and we were informed that the airport only opens when the flights depart, it really is a tiny island! We looked forward to our flight with Air New Zealand (our favourite airline so far).
As we sat in the departures lounge we began to get a feel of what was to come…we were slowly surrounded by more and more American accents and then sure enough, just as Salty Trix had mentioned, there he was with a cookie in each hand and one in his mouth too!
