After staying two days in Kakadu Lodge in Jabiru we moved 40 kilometers up to Ubirr for two days. We stayed in Merl Campground ($10 fee per person). The campground has toilets, showers, drinking water, fire place and rubbish bins. Ranger man comes in the evening to collect the fees. Except large number of mosquitos the place would be perfect for camping.

First day we went for Bardedjilidji Sandstone walk. The walk is 2.5 kilometers and it is going through various landscapes. It meanders among sandstone outliers, through small pockets of monsoon vine forest and paper bark woodland and past wetland areas. There is even a small tunnel and shelter between the rocks. It was one of the most beautiful walks we have ever done.

In the afternoon, we went for Manngarre walk for 1.2 kilometers. This walk goes through monsoon rainforest beside East Alligator River. It is a pretty 'dark' walk and this time we did not enjoy it so much as there was nothing to see except the forest.

Then we drove to Ubirr. Mostly it is a rock art site where you can see various paintings. In the end of the walk there is a magnificent lookout over wetlands in Arnhem Land. First time we were there during the day and not many tourists we could see so we enjoyed it. Second time we drove there for sunset and it was much better as the sun turned red in the end of the sunset.
The second day in Merl campground was unbearable. The mosquitos were everywhere, they were going inside our trailer, and we could not really get rid of them. We started a camp fire but even we put more cloths on, they were biting through it.

Next day, we left Merl and returned to Jabiru for couple of nights.
