Where I stayed
After we departed the station, we found our hostel a short distance up the road. After getting settled in our nice hostel, we walked down to the river that cuts through the city, and followed it for a little while looking at all the beautiful gothic style statues and buildings that were all lit up
The next day was tough, as it rained all day long. As much as it rained, we didn't let this impact our desire to get out. We bought some umbrellas and continued to walk around Old Town Square, which would be considered the downtown area. While there, we got to visit the Charles Bridge, the Astronomical Clock at the Staromestska Radnice Tower, the Hussite Church, and the Powder Gate. From there we visited the Narodni Museum, which had an exhibit on the Austrian monarchy.
Later that night we went back to the square and climbed the Radnice Tower. From there we got an amazing view of the Christmas market taking place in the square, as well as the rest of the city. We then went to a beer tasting just down the street, where we met a couple from the US working in Germany. During this tasting we got to sample 7 Czech beers, 3 that were mass produced, and 4 that were micro brews. We had a great time learning about the beers, and talking with our new friends.
On Christmas Eve we visited the Prague Castle, and St. Vitus Cathedral. Both were very beautiful and fun to walk around. Before heading to the station, we located our new favorite food of the trip, Doner Kebabs. This delicious Turkish wrap includes lamb, two types of cabbage, lettuce, chili powder, and tzakizi (a mayo, yogurt, and dill sauce), was made before us, and was very delicious (as seen in the photos). We headed towards the main train station to catch our train to Vienna in the afternoon, and had a beautiful ride out of the city. We will miss this city for all its unique gothic statues, buildings, castles, and churches.
Have a Merry Christmas!!
