Arriving early, nothing like the LP guide said (no glue sniffing kids/begging gypsies but there are dogs! station quite nice. had to wait while to book couchette. macdonalds again... plastic money! went for wander, bit lost, stray dogs following me! came back to station. had brainwave of hotel. raided info at desk in ibis hotel by station. walk all way down. suprisingly quiet. lovely buildings. palace of people huge, lots and lots of fountains! wander round old town. *beautiful* buildings, but shocking states of disrepair. whole streets dug up, have to walk down wooden gangways to get down them. seem to have been like that for ages (sign from 1995!) pizza hut, nice waitress. people speak more english than in bulgaria. waiting room, guard says why come here - there are gypsies! 6 berth carriage to budapest - me and 5 men! nice girl next door worried about all the men! bloke in nothing but underpants....
