Once we got into Vienna I went straight to the ticket desk and booked my couchette for Belgrade which was all fine. I dumped my rucksack in the left luggage lockers and set out. It was hot and bright when I set out but I made the silly mistake of leaving my coat in the locker as I thought the weather would be ok. But it's been raining most of the day and then letting off a little so I have been getting wet and then drying out, and then taking refuge in cafes when it got too heavy. I have drunk a lot of coffee today as a result! (although I'm still rather tired) I had a good wander around the historic part of Vienna. It's ok but nothing really grabbed me. I think it's because it's all grand strasse and no little nooks and crannies so it feels a little impersonal. I also had to resist the urge to whip my MP3 player out and put on a bit of Ultravox so I could trudge down the street wailing 'It means NOTHING to ME! AAAAAHHHHH VIENNA!' but somehow I did. There were lots of poor sods dressed up in Mozart gear trying to flog tickets to the opera and horses doing carriage rides as well. I had finished seeing the main sights by about 1 or 2 pm. So I went to the Prater which is an amusement park with a big ferris wheel. I went up that to get a feel of the size and the scope of the city. So with that done I'm in an internet cafe not too far from the train station. I still have about 2 and half hours to kill so I'll probably go and get some food and investigate the shower sign I saw in the station earlier and see if I can get cleaned up. I had a bit of a wash on the train, but as I've got a similar sort of day tomorrow I'm not going to get a proper wash until Saturday morning which will be a bit minging! I will update tomorrow if I can. This has been the first internet cafe I've seen in the whole of Vienna so god knows what internet access will be like in Belgrade! Until tomorrow....
