Early on the morning we boarded a train for milan . One comment here if
you are thinking of this route. It is NOT scenic at all! About 75% of
the time you are in high-speed tunnels through the alps. In
retrospect, we should have taken a slower route but what can you do?
Anyway we arrived in Milan around 11am. Milan is a HUGE city -and the
train station is terribly confusing.
Anyway, rob went to visit his family while I check out the city. If
you have money and like to shop , i'm sure you'd love it! As for me it
was too hectic to even talk about... (but I will anyway).
My first stop was the church where davinci's last supper is hung, but
it seems you need reservations well in advance and it was sold out! Oh
well -lots more exploring, right? Well, not really.
I next ended up walking by this huge fortress of sorts. There was a
big piazza on the inside as well. I didn't visit the museum, however,
so I font know much else.
The highlight of Milan was certainly the duomo - the huge cathedral
right in the center of town. This I'd clearly where the action is and
people were there day and night. I went inside and it I'd dlmost too
big to even describe - there were coridoors and paths everywhere -
and altars. Very much like a bigger, more ornate version of notre dame
in Paris . In fact architecturally, Milan reminded me very much of paris
- even moreso than Rome .
I will say that some Italian would come in handy there as not mich
English is spoken. And the streets are rather confusing as well, but
overall it was interesting and I'm glad I went there but I do see why
the tourist books write it off a bit...
Anyway, next stop...... ROME!
