Figuring out very basic ideas around public trans was next and seemed fairly simple. However, basic things still remain confusing. Entering the tram that circled the city, we begin to notice that the locals don't pay for this service. Earlier that morning, we were told by our hotel concergie that riding the tram was 2 euros. Mark and I get on the tram, embarrasingly fumble with the automated machine, get some sort of ticket and were on our way. Yet, as we traveled about the city and watched locals, we began to notice this strange phenomenon... no one pays. We still don't get it.
Anyway, later in the day, we stop at a small cafe for wine, omlettes and spaghetti. Back to apt for a short rest. Dinner. Then off to a screening of Good Night and Good Luck at one of the few theaters showing English films. Movie is sad and inspiring. Wine bar is next. Drink a few glasses of wine that neither one of us can pronounce. Conversation drifts from comparing american/european culture to a craving for apple strudel and more wine. We leave and head what has become our favorite vienna cafe ...(where I am now).
