The Plot of Ramayana (full story)
IntroductionPrabu Janaka, the King of Mantili Kingdom had a very beautiful princess named Dewi Shinta. A competition is conducted in order to decide who will be the right person to marry Dewi Shinta. The prince of Ayodya Kingdom, Rama Wijaya, at last wins the competition.
Dandaka forestRama Wijaya, along with his wife Shinta accompanied by his younger brother Leksamana went to Dandaka Forest. Meeting Shinta in the place, Rahwana becomes eager to possess her. So he asked one of his followers named Marica to change him into a golden deer called Kijang Kencana to attract Shinta. Being interested in the beauty of the deer, Shinta asks Rama to capture the deer for her. Rama then leaves Shinta and hunted the deer.
After waiting for a long time, Shinta got nervous that she asked Leksamana to look for Rama. Before leaving Shinta alone, Leksamana drew a magic circle on the ground that would protect her from any danger.
As soon as Rahwana noticed that Shinta has been left alone, Rahwana tried to kidnap Shinta but has fallen because of the magic circle. Then he changes into an old beggar. As soon as Shinta gets out of the magic circle to give alms to the beggar, Rahwana took her and flew with her to Alengka Kingdom.
Running after the deerRama shot the deer with his magic arrow, but the deer transformed into a giant Marica. A war then broke between them. Rama shot Marica with his arrow. After a while, Leksamana arrived and asked Rama to go back to Shinta's place.
The kidnap of Shinta On the way to Alengka, Rahwana met a bird named Jatayu. After noticing that Shinta is the princess of Prabu Janaka, Jatayu attacked Rahwana in order to free Shinta but he was defeated by Rahwana.
After finding out that Shinta is not in the magic circle anymore, Rama and Leksama decided to look for Shinta. Then they met the seriously wounded Jatayu whom they thought had kidnapped Shinta. So Rama decided to kill Jatayu but Leksamana stopped him. Jatayu then explained what has happened to him and then he died.
A moment later, a white monkey named Hanuman arrived. He was delegated by his uncle Sugriwa to look for two heroes who can kill Subali. Subali is a sacred man who has taken Dewi Tara, Sugriwa's beloved woman, by force. Rama decided to help Sugriwa.
Kiskendo caveWhen Subali, Dewi Tara and the his son are talking, Sugriwa arrived. With Rama's help, Sugriwa attacked and defeated Subali. He then took Dewi Tara with him again. Sugriwa decided to help Rama in his search for Shinta and Hanuman was sent as an envoy to Alengka Kingdom.
Argasoka gardenRahwana's niece, Trijata was comforting Shinta in the garden. Rahwana arrived and asked Shinta's willingness to be his wife but Shinta refused. This made Rahwana very angry that he wanted to kill Shinta but Trijata stopped him and said that he should be patient. Trijata promised to look after Shinta. Shinta started to hear a beautiful song sung by Hanuman. Hanuman told Shinta his purpose to help her and that this was ordered by Rama. Hanuman found out the total power of the Alengka Army. Then, he destroyed the garden. Indrajid, Rahwana's son, captured him, Kumbakarna tried to stopped this but he was thrown out of the kingdom. Hanuman was sentenced to death by fire. With fire around his body, Hanuman burnt the Alengka kingdom.
Rama's bridgeAfter sending Hanuman, Rama and his ape troops went to the sea and made a bridge to Alengka. When the bridge was finished, Hanuman came and reported about the situation in Alengka and the power of its troops. Rama then sent Hanuman, Hanggada, Hanila and Jambawan to lead the troops that would attack Alengka.
The total warWhile the Alengka troops are guarding the boundaries of their kingdom, they were attacked by ape troops. A big war broke! Indrajid was killed by Leksamana. Kumbakama, Rahwana's younger brother died as a patriotic hero. After his death, Rahwana became the commander of the Alengka troops that would face Rama. In this war, Rahwana was killed by Rama's arrow and Hanuman dropped Mt Sumawana on Rahwana.
The meeting of Rama and ShintaAfter Rahwana's death, Shinta accompanied by Hanuman met Rama. Rama refused to accept her thinking that she was not pure anymore. To prove her purity, Shinta burnt herselt. With the help of the god of fire, Shinta was saved-a proof that she is still pure. This made Rama very happy and he finally accepted Shinta again.
My Ramayana Ballet Experience
The ballet company manager was very accommodating and very friendly that she took me on a tour on the backstage-- I was able to see and observe the artists as they prepare their costume and put on their make-up!!
The Ramayana Ballet is a two-thumbs up for me! It was a very great show anyone visiting Prambanan should not miss especially if they like cultural shows and performances! I enjoyed it so much! So very much that the dance actually made a mark of Indonesian culture in my heart and memory.
