So some of the guys who didn't hesitate to book black water rafting went this morning and 3 of the lads done the more extreme version which includes abseiling down into the caves, doing a wire walk, lots of pot holing (they just call it caving here!) and black water rafting and they all really enjoyed it. There were some pretty sore heads this morning and one of the girls, Rosa didn't make it out of bed to go blackwater rafting nor was she able to do her skydive this afternoon and she spent pretty much the whole two hours on the bus from Waitomo to Taupo throwing up - all for the sake of some cheap wine....... well I had a bottle of wine with Katie and felt fine this morning and Katie managed to make it to rafting and had a great time.
So today was pretty much about getting from Waitomo to Taupo where we have two nights. Taupo is famous for being the cheapest place in the world to skydive - I actually really wanted to do it but decided that I wanna do the helihike in the Glacier more and can't really afford both so thats another thing on the list! Taupo has a massive lake here, its so big that you could actually fit Singapore into it - its a reasonable sized town surrounded by snow covered mountains so its quite beautiful. I had considered doing the Tongariro Crossing which is a 10 mile hike across the top of the volcanos which is supposed to be one of the best one day walks in the world. I quizzed Flea about it and she said that its pretty tough getting up but the sense of achievement once you've done it is unreal but the bloody weather has kicked in and all the walks have been cancelled for the next few days as gale force winds are being predicted in the mountain - not sure I would have actually done it cos its pretty far but I'd like to - another list item.
So the plan for Taupo is to do as little as possible really - we've been moving about so much its kinda nice to just be still. I was gonna do one of the free unguided walks but we actually go further into the Tongariro national park on Saturday and do a 2 hr walk with the whole group there so we'll see maybe i'll just sit and admire the view for a whole day!!
