SUNSHINE - hooray so my kinda plan for today was that I'd get up earlyish and get my washing done ready for tomorrow and sort out my stuff and call singapore airlines to change my flight dates with them - all was well until I called singapore airlines - what a palava I only wanted to change 3 flight dates, 6 phone calls later and I finally managed to get through to someone who wasn't in an Indian call centre and could answer questions that weren't on their script! Anyway after spending half my morning on the phone I actually had to go to their office in Auckland which as it turned out wasn't too far away and was pretty easy to find so all my flights are okay now just have to deal with my one for coming home but that can wait......

So as I had already trekked around half of Auckland I thought I'd go down to the viaduct (thats what they call their harbour area). Its quite pretty altough there weren't as many boats as I've seen on other peoples pictures it was still pretty nice then it was a top up between going up the sky tower which they have here which is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere (which people jump off on elastic - bloody stupid idea) or going across to Devonport on the northshore. Now as I'm not all that good with heights and the Empire State Building freaked me out the idea of a glass lift on the outside of the building and a glass floor that you have to walk on when you get to the top weren't overly appealing although the views are supposedly amazing the lull of Devonport was much stronger and the ferry ticket only cost $9 return and of course the sun was shining so I went.

Its a really pretty place, very victorian (so they say) and it did remind me of england lots although most of the houses are made of wood but painted white but the views back at Auckland were amazing as was the little bay a bit further round. Viaduct area of Auckland

Mount Victoria is over there to which is a volcanic cone (not sure whether its active or not but there's lots of geothermal activity round here) I was tempted to climb up and have a look from the top but I figured i'll be doing enough hiking and climbing over the next month and I was feeling pretty lazy so I wander around for a couple of hours, had a coffee (Newzealander's are mad about their coffee -we have pubs they have coffee shops) before catching the ferry back. I have an early start tomorrow (5.30am!) so it'll be an early night for me I think. The clouds that form round this city are so lovely (check the pictures) big fluffy white clouds that for a change today weren't full of rain!!

So tomorrow head north (I think) to Paiha and the Bay of Islands which is supposed to be amazing. I'm gonna be moving around a alot in the next 4 weeks so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to update this but I'll do it when I can.
