I had a nice wander round the area last night - its great. Its kinda french, well actually everything is in French - road signs, menus etc so if you don't understand any french then get a phrase book before you come here!

The area where the hostel is is really old, cobbled streets, little houses - its lovely and so full of character but its clean so its not comparable with France!

I managed to find my way to new Montreal today which is okay but has much less to offer than where I'm staying its modern with lots of shops and upmarket boutiques which are expensive as are the restaurants. Actually quite a lot of things are expensive here if you're not careful.

I had to send my insurance papers back to mum and dad today and as they were important I thought it best that I send them by international recorded delivery - it cost me $13! for two bits of paper!!

Then just to make my first week away absolutely fantastic my bag broke this morning when I picked it up! The big strap snapped so in summary in my first week of this lifetime adventure I've had to go to ER couldn't walk properly for the first three days got some drugs for the delightful price of $500 and now I've had to buy a new bag!!! I've bought a much smaller bag cos the big one was getting on my nerves and in a week I haven't actually used half the stuff that I have brought with me so time for a sort out I think!!

Anyway with the hope that things can only get better I'm gonna sort my bag, have a shower and a sleep and join some of the guys here for a night on the town!
